High drama unfolded at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport today, October 10, as Delhi Police detained Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), immediately upon his arrival. The detention took place in connection with the outfit’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar. Minutes after his flight touched down, a team of police personnel entered the aircraft to take him into custody. In a dramatic exchange, Dipke told the officers, “I have come here to get arrested, please arrest me.” In response, the police clarified that it was not a formal arrest and urged him to cooperate and maintain calm.
The preventive action comes as Delhi Police explicitly denied official permission for the CJP’s proposed demonstration. Anticipating unrest, law enforcement agencies have placed the national capital under heavy security, turning key areas into heavily guarded zones. Strict vehicular and individual screening is underway across all interstate border checkpoints leading into Delhi to intercept outside agitators and suspicious elements.
Security arrangements around Jantar Mantar and adjacent central Delhi neighborhoods have been fortified significantly. Several demonstrators attempting to assemble at the protest venue ahead of schedule were swiftly placed under preventive detention. To manage commuter movement and prevent large gatherings, authorities have closed entry and exit at 45 key Delhi Metro stations. Additionally, mobile internet services have been temporarily suspended in select sensitive pockets to prevent rumor-mongering and mass coordination, leaving parts of the city under tight administrative surveillance.
