3 Killed, 4 Injured as Speeding Car Rams into Crowd Outside Durga Puja Pandal in UP’s Balrampur

A devastating road accident occurred late Saturday night in the Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, leaving three villagers dead and four others critically injured. The tragedy took place in Charangahiya-Belha village under the Dehat Kotwali police station limits. Around midnight, following the conclusion of the Durga Puja aarti, several villagers were sitting by the roadside watching a video on a temporary screen. A speeding and uncontrolled car, heading towards the Gaura intersection, crashed through a section of the tent and plowed directly into the unsuspecting crowd, giving them no chance to escape.

Hearing the screams, local residents rushed to the scene and immediately alerted the authorities. Police transported all the victims to the District Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared three individuals dead on arrival. The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Pateshwari Prasad (alias Mahta Prasad), 51-year-old Manoj Singh, and 45-year-old Ganesh Pandey, all residents of the same village.

The sudden loss of three lives has plunged the entire community into deep mourning. Four others—identified as Chhediram (50), Ghopram (31), Dablu (37), and Mukesh Tiwari (30)—sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment. Given their critical condition, two of the injured have been referred to a specialized medical facility in Bahraich.

Circle Officer (CO) Abhishek Singh stated that police initiated prompt action, seizing the accident vehicle and detaining the errant driver. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have been operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Authorities are currently awaiting medical reports to confirm the intoxication, following which strict legal action and formal charges will be pressed against the accused.
