The Delhi Police has been put on high alert following a planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. Prominent YouTuber and commentator Dhruv Rathee, who arrived to participate in the protest, was detained by Delhi Police from his residence in Gurugram, Haryana. A police team reached his flat in Central Park Vihar, Sector 56, Gurugram, around 7:48 AM. Officers entered the premises after his mother opened the door and completed the formalities to take him into custody. Around 50 police personnel had reportedly been stationed outside his apartment complex since late the previous night.
The authorities did not grant official permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. To prevent untoward incidents and maintain law and order, Delhi Police enforced stringent security arrangements across the capital, particularly in the New Delhi area. Key routes leading into New Delhi were fortified with multi-layered barricades and checkpoints. Police carried out thorough inspections, permitting journalists and local residents through only after strict identity checks. Suspected protesters were swiftly bundled into buses and removed from key locations.
Border security around Delhi was substantially tightened, and several demonstrators attempting to assemble at Jantar Mantar were taken into preventive custody. As a precautionary measure, entry and exit gates at 45 major Delhi Metro stations were shut down, causing significant disruption to daily commuters. Furthermore, mobile internet services were temporarily suspended in sensitive zones to curb misinformation and prevent large-scale mob coordination.
