Dhurandhar The Revenge is set to make its television premiere on Sunday, October 18. Before its TV broadcast, the Ranveer Singh-starrer has received a fresh certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film originally received an ‘A’ certificate for its theatrical release. It has now been certified ‘UA 16+’ for television.
According to the CBFC certification details, the television version has a runtime of 3 hours, 39 minutes and 6 seconds. This is around 10 minutes shorter than the theatrical version.
45-50 cuts reportedly made for TV
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the makers were asked to make around 45-50 cuts before the film could be cleared for television.
The reported changes mainly involve scenes depicting extreme violence and gore.
A source quoted by the publication said the disturbing portions were edited while retaining the film’s overall impact.
The exact scenes removed from the television version have not been publicly detailed.
Original theatrical version ran for nearly 3 hours 50 minutes
The theatrical version of Dhurandhar The Revenge had a runtime of 3 hours, 49 minutes and 6 seconds.
The film received an ‘A’ certificate before its theatrical release.
The CBFC had also asked the makers to remove around 94 seconds of footage from the theatrical version.
Some abusive words were also reportedly replaced or muted.
Despite those changes, the film attracted attention for its graphic and violent sequences.
Dhurandhar 2’s box office performance
Dhurandhar The Revenge emerged as one of the biggest Hindi-language box-office successes.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 1,813 crore worldwide.
It collected around Rs 1,149 crore net in India, while its overseas earnings stood at approximately Rs 438 crore.
The film was not released in several Gulf countries. These included the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
The film’s reported worldwide collection placed it behind Aamir Khan’s Dangal in the ranking cited in the original report.
Dangal remains ahead in worldwide collections
Released in 2016, Dangal reportedly earned around Rs 2,070 crore worldwide.
Its overseas collection was approximately Rs 1,535 crore.
A significant share of the overseas earnings came from its successful run in China.
In India, Dangal reportedly earned around Rs 387 crore net.
With the television version of Dhurandhar The Revenge receiving a new certification, viewers will see a shorter cut of the film with several reportedly violent sequences removed.
