Nana Patekar Dies at 75: Bollywood’s ‘Krantiveer’ Passes Away After Cardiac Arrest

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died in Goa at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest. Doctors attempted CPR for around 45 minutes but could not revive him.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. The acclaimed actor was found unconscious at his home and was taken to Manipal Hospital for emergency treatment.

According to hospital information, doctors attempted to revive Patekar for nearly 45 minutes. Despite continuous CPR, they could not save him. He was declared dead at 5:20 am.

Patekar’s death marks the end of a career that spanned more than five decades across Hindi, Marathi cinema and theatre. Known for his intense screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery and unconventional choice of roles, he became one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive performers.

Nana Patekar’s Illustrious Film Career

Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Patekar made his Bollywood debut with the 1978 film Gaman. He went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films such as Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Wajood, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Raajneeti and Natsamrat.

He also showed his comic side as gangster Uday Shetty in Welcome, a role that introduced his intense acting style to a wider comedy audience.

Patekar won three National Film Awards during his career. He also received the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.

His work extended beyond acting. Patekar also lent his voice as a playback singer and remained associated with social causes, particularly initiatives supporting farmers and families affected by agrarian distress.

Nana Patekar’s Last Public Appearance

Nana Patekar’s last public appearance came in Goa just four days before his death. He attended and addressed the Samraat Club International installation ceremony in Dona Paula on October 4.

The actor’s sudden death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across Indian cinema and public life.

PM Modi and Celebrities Mourn Nana Patekar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, remembering Patekar for his intensity, individuality, versatility and unmistakable screen presence. Modi said the actor’s passing had left a deep void.

Several prominent personalities also mourned his death. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recalled his close friendship with Patekar and praised his contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema.

Actors including Prakash Raj, Ravi Kishan and Riteish Deshmukh also paid emotional tributes to the veteran performer.

Deshmukh described Patekar as an actor who could convincingly play a larger-than-life hero, a terrifying villain or a poker-faced comic character.

A Lasting Legacy in Indian Cinema

Nana Patekar built a rare legacy by moving effortlessly between serious drama, action, social cinema and comedy. His distinctive voice, intense performances and memorable characters made him a powerful presence on screen.

His contribution also extended beyond films through his association with social initiatives and support for rural communities.

Nana Patekar’s death leaves behind a body of work that continues to influence and entertain generations of Indian cinema audiences.
