Massive Security Blanket in Connaught Place Ahead of CJP’s Tiranga March; Over 30,000 Personnel Deployed, Traffic Hit on 21 Routes

A massive security apparatus has been deployed across Connaught Place (CP) and surrounding areas in New Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) scheduled “Lehra Do Tiranga” demonstration. To prevent untoward incidents and maintain public order, more than 30,000 security personnel have been stationed across Lutyens’ Delhi. The extensive security cover spans key transit points, markets, and gathering spaces, including Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk, Central Park, Jantar Mantar, Palika Bazar, and adjoining metro stations. Multi-layered barricading and checkpoints have been set up at critical junctions like Patel Chowk, ITO, and Parliament Street to monitor crowd movement while attempting to limit disruption for daily commuters.

Senior police officials confirmed that an additional reserve force of 5,000 personnel has been kept on standby for contingencies. To augment local forces, 220 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been mobilized across New Delhi, border checkpoints, and sensitive zones. Security operations will run across three shifts, with 30 CAPF companies deployed per shift, scalable up to 60 companies should crowd numbers swell into the evening. Surveillance has also been reinforced with over 10 high-resolution CCTV units installed specifically around Rajiv Chowk and Central Park for continuous monitoring and evidence gathering.

The Delhi Traffic Police warned of substantial vehicular congestion across roughly 21 arterial routes from Friday afternoon onwards. Commuters traversing Parliament Street, Janpath, Barakhamba Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Mandi House, and Windsor Place are likely to encounter diversions and traffic delays. In view of festive season shopping, motorists have been advised to opt for public transport, set aside extra travel time, and utilize designated parking areas. Additionally, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced the closure of Central Park to the general public on Friday and Saturday, citing administrative reasons.

The planned protest forms part of the ongoing standoff between the CJP and administrative authorities, stemming from allegations of irregularities in the special summary revision of electoral rolls overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke raised sharp objections against the government while protesting the judicial custody of party functionaries Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court declined to put an outright stay on the Central Park demonstration, directing police authorities instead to regulate the gathering and enforce strict law and order. Citing existing prohibitory orders, Delhi Police have urged demonstrators to adhere to legal boundaries and refrain from disrupting peace.
