Twenty-year-old environmental activist Surendra Singh Choudhry, popularly known on social media as ‘Bittu Tabahi,’ has set a new benchmark in Bengaluru. After gaining internet fame for his remarkable solo cleanup of the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh, Bittu is now expanding his cleanliness mission to other states. Recently, he spearheaded a massive cleanup drive in the Turahalli Forest, located on Kanakapura Road about 20 kilometers from Bengaluru, where over 100 local volunteers enthusiastically joined his cause.
Prioritizing safety and hygiene, Bittu and his team wore masks and gloves while extracting a massive amount of garbage from the forest. The effort went well beyond surface cleaning; team members used spades to dig out deeply buried trash, packing it into sacks. In some heavily littered areas where waste was deeply embedded in the soil, they even brought in a JCB machine to assist. Finally, the united team loaded all the collected waste onto a recycling truck and sent it for proper disposal.
Sharing a video of the initiative on Instagram, Bittu explained that he is traveling across different states to spread the message of keeping public spaces clean. He expressed immense happiness that Bengaluru’s locals not only appreciated his initiative but also worked shoulder-to-shoulder with him to clean the forest. Previously, Bittu had spent months pulling plastic and waste from Madhya Pradesh’s highly polluted Ajnar River using his own limited resources, without any major government or institutional backing. His relentless struggle captured the attention of the entire nation.
Recognizing his selfless dedication to the environment and his extraordinary work on the Ajnar River, Bittu recently received a prestigious job offer from ‘The Ocean Cleanup,’ a renowned international organization founded by Dutch environmentalist Boyan Slat. Following this milestone, Bittu posted an emotional video thanking everyone who supported him on his journey. He has now asked his followers to suggest which state he should visit next to continue his nationwide cleanliness mission.
