A heart-wrenching drama unfolded in Rampur’s Gangapur Kadim village under Kemri police station limits on the day that was supposed to be the bride’s wedding. The groom flatly refused to bring the baraat, leaving the bride and her family devastated. In a courageous stand, the bride publicly revealed that the man had sexually exploited her for four long years under the false promise of marriage.
The victim told reporters that she had lodged a police complaint earlier as well, following which the accused had repeatedly assured her family that he would marry her. However, when the wedding day arrived, he backed out completely, allegedly because her poor family could not meet his demands of ₹5 lakh cash and a car.
“My father is a labourer. We are very poor. He kept exploiting me physically for four years saying he would marry me, but when the day came, he vanished,” the distraught bride said, surrounded by angry villagers.
Police Action and Local Outrage
Kemri police have registered a case on the bride’s fresh complaint and are investigating the matter. Locals gathered in large numbers outside the bride’s house, expressing fury over the betrayal and raising slogans against the accused and his family.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of young women being sexually exploited for years on the pretext of marriage, only to be abandoned when families cannot fulfil extravagant dowry-like demands.
