A tragic accident occurred in Bihar’s Purnea early Friday morning when the Jogbani–Pataliputra Vande Bharat Express struck a group of people, leaving at least four dead and several others injured. The incident happened around 5:00 am while the high-speed train was passing through the area.
According to officials, the victims had been returning from a cultural programme at Durga Mela when they attempted to cross the tracks. Three of them died instantly after being hit by the train, while one more succumbed to injuries at the GMC hospital during treatment. Several others are currently being treated, with one reported in critical condition.
The Railway Police have taken possession of the bodies and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. It is still unclear whether negligence at a railway crossing or risky behavior in crossing the tracks was responsible for the tragedy.
The Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express, inaugurated on December 17, departs Jogbani at 3:25 am, halts at Purnea at 4:50 am, and passes through Saharsa, Khagaria, Samastipur, and Muzaffarpur before reaching Danapur, Patna, around 11:30 am.
