Uttar Pradesh to Offer Space Technology Scholarship Named After Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla

CM Yogi Adityanath honours India’s young astronaut

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the launch of a new scholarship scheme in the name of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently returned after a successful mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The scheme is aimed at encouraging students pursuing higher studies in space science and technology.

The announcement was made during a felicitation ceremony held in Lucknow, where the Chief Minister lauded Shukla’s achievement as a moment of pride not just for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country.

Inspiring the next generation

Yogi Adityanath said the scholarship would be offered to meritorious students from Uttar Pradesh who want to build careers in space technology, aerospace engineering, and related scientific fields.

“Shubhanshu Shukla has become an inspiration for millions of young Indians. His journey from a small town in Uttar Pradesh to the International Space Station reflects how determination, hard work, and education can take one to the stars. This scholarship will help nurture future scientists, researchers, and astronauts from our state,” the CM said.

Details of the scholarship

Officials informed that the scholarship scheme would be open to undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing courses in space technology, physics, astrophysics, aerospace engineering, and allied fields. The state government will soon release detailed eligibility criteria, including academic performance and entrance test requirements.

Special preference will be given to students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented youth from pursuing careers in space research.

Shubhanshu Shukla’s remarkable journey

Shubhanshu Shukla, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, made headlines earlier this month when he successfully completed his mission on the ISS. A trained astronaut and scientist, Shukla’s achievement has been celebrated across India as a milestone in the nation’s growing presence in global space exploration.

During the ceremony, Shukla thanked the Uttar Pradesh government for the honour and said he hoped the scholarship would “ignite curiosity among young students” and encourage them to aim for careers in space sciences. “India’s future in space exploration depends on the dreams and dedication of our students. I am humbled to see my name attached to an initiative that supports them,” he said.

Boosting India’s space aspirations

The move comes at a time when India’s space sector is expanding rapidly, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and private players working on ambitious projects in satellite launches, lunar missions, and deep space exploration.

Education experts welcomed the scholarship, calling it a much-needed step to strengthen India’s talent pool in advanced scientific fields. “Such schemes not only provide financial assistance but also motivate students by connecting them to real-life role models like Shubhanshu Shukla,” said a professor of aerospace engineering from IIT Kanpur.

Looking ahead

The Uttar Pradesh government has been focusing on promoting education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Officials hinted that more initiatives linked to innovation and research are likely to be announced in the coming months.

For now, the Shubhanshu Shukla Scholarship stands as a tribute to a young astronaut’s extraordinary achievement and a beacon of inspiration for students aspiring to reach new frontiers in space technology.
