Indian cricketers Sanju Samson and Ravichandran Ashwin have expressed their amazement at the prodigious talent of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a striking debut in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking on Ashwin’s “Kutti Stories” podcast, the former Rajasthan Royals teammates shared their disbelief at the youngster’s maturity and powerful hitting.
Samson admitted he was initially surprised when Suryavanshi hit a six, but the “quality of the shots” that followed truly “shocked” him. Ashwin was equally impressed, recalling a specific moment in the IPL where he tried to outsmart the young batsman with a slower delivery, only to be out-thought in return. “I was thinking, what the hell, where did this kid come from, and he’s 14 years old,” Ashwin said, highlighting the contrast with his own IPL debut 18 years ago.
Suryavanshi’s impressive form has continued after his breakout IPL season. He has since represented the India U-19 team on their tour of England, where he scored a magnificent 143 in a Youth ODI at Worcester and also showcased his all-round skills by taking wickets in a Youth Test. His performances have firmly established him as one of India’s most exciting young cricket prospects.
