Nation Faces a Growing Crisis
The issue of SIR BLO deaths in 7 states now alarms the entire country. The SIR verification drive continues, and 5.32 lakh Booth Level Officers knock on doors to update electoral rolls. They cover more than 51 crore voters across 12 states. Heavy workload and strict deadlines increase pressure on them. Within 22 days, 25 BLOs lost their lives in seven states. Trinamool Congress claims 34 deaths in West Bengal alone.
Political Heat Rises in Many States
Political fights intensify in Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Bengal minister Arup Biswas says SIR pressure caused deaths. CM Mamata Banerjee accuses the Centre of using SIR to create fear. BJP IT chief Amit Malviya counters her. He claims TMC workers add fake names to the voter list. The political blame game grows louder every day.
Former CEC Points Out System Gaps
Former Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat highlights technical flaws. He says BLOs in Madhya Pradesh struggled with captcha issues in the app. Officials removed the captcha feature later. Heavy server load blocks form uploads. Many BLOs upload forms at night for smooth functioning. School teachers who work as BLOs face extra pressure because schools push them to finish the syllabus before December.
Supreme Court Issues Key Observation
The Supreme Court says the SIR process follows constitutional rules. The CJI says Aadhaar does not prove citizenship. The court says officials must inform a voter before removing any name from the electoral roll. The court will continue the hearing on Thursday.
