Bihar Election Results 2025: BJP’s Folk Singer Maithili Thakur Claims Historic Win in Alinagar, Becomes Bihar’s Youngest MLA at 25

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Maithili Thakur, the 25-year-old folk singer and cultural ambassador, has claimed victory in Bihar’s Alinagar assembly constituency on November 14, 2025, marking her political debut and the saffron party’s first-ever win in this RJD stronghold. Thakur secured a commanding lead of over 11,000 votes against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) rival Binod Mishra, positioning her to become Bihar’s youngest MLA ever.

Alinagar, a general seat in Darbhanga district with a mix of Brahmin, Yadav, and Muslim voters, polled 67.13% turnout on November 11. Historically dominated by RJD veteran Abdul Bari Siddiqui (seven wins until 2015), the constituency shifted to NDA’s Vikassheel Insaan Party ally Mishri Lal Yadav in 2020 by just 3,000 votes. Thakur’s surge flips it decisively for BJP amid the NDA’s statewide tsunami of 208 seats.

Thakur’s Commanding Lead: From Early Edge to Decisive Margin

Counting began at 8 a.m., with Thakur leading from round one. Her margin grew steadily: 8,544 votes after round six, over 8,000 after 17 rounds (59,897 votes), and 11,000+ by the final tally of 24 rounds. Mishra trailed with 73,000+ votes, while Jan Shakti Janata Dal’s Biplaw Chaudhary finished third.

Cultural Icon to Political Star: Thakur’s Debut Triumph

Thakur, who turned 25 in June, joined BJP months ago, blending her Maithili folk heritage with youth outreach via social media and rallies. She promised to rename Alinagar if elected, tying it to cultural pride in Mithilanchal. Post-trends, she sang a celebratory “Badhai Geet” for Nitish Kumar, crediting NDA’s development vision. “I never doubted the result—it’s a win for those believing in a developed Bihar,” she told reporters, emotional yet confident.

Her victory symbolizes BJP’s “new-age” strategy, merging aspirational energy with Modi’s policies that drew women voters (key to NDA’s 67% turnout). Amit Shah called it a “victory for progress over stagnation,” while BJP’s Prem Shukla praised women’s trust in Modi.

This adds to BJP’s 93 seats in NDA’s 208 tally, fueling Nitish’s 10th term oath with PM Modi attending. Opposition alleges SIR “rigging,” but celebrations rage in Patna.
