India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, articulated the country’s stance during an open debate at the UN Security Council (UNSC) on the current situation in West Asia, peace in Gaza, and the Palestinian issue. He expressed gratitude to Russia for convening the session, emphasizing its timeliness in the wake of recent diplomatic breakthroughs.
Harish noted that the debate occurs against the backdrop of the Gaza Peace Summit held in Sharm al-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, where India actively participated and welcomed the signing of a landmark peace agreement. “India hopes that the positive diplomatic momentum generated will pave the way for lasting peace in the region,” he stated, underscoring New Delhi’s optimism for sustained stability.
He commended the United States, particularly President Donald Trump, for their pivotal role in advancing the agreement, while also appreciating the contributions of Egypt and Qatar in facilitating the process. India firmly believes that dialogue, diplomacy, and a two-state solution remain the cornerstone of achieving enduring peace. Harish stressed the importance of all parties adhering to their commitments and refraining from unilateral actions that could undermine progress.
India’s position, as reiterated by Harish, is grounded in events since October 7, 2023: unequivocal condemnation of terrorism, calls to end civilian suffering, demands for the release of hostages, ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire. New Delhi views the peace agreement as a catalyst for broader regional stability.
India stands ready to support these efforts, aligning with its long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause, including over $170 million in aid and ongoing projects worth $40 million.
