Indian Triple Jumper Provisionally Suspended After Failing NADA Doping Test

A woman triple jumper, a multiple national medalist who also represented India internationally, has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for a prohibited substance.

The athlete, in her 30s, had competed at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, a source from the Athletics Federation of India confirmed to PTI. Her identity and the substance involved have not been disclosed.

This latest case adds to the growing list of doping setbacks in Indian athletics. Earlier this month, discus thrower Gagandeep Singh, who won gold at the Uttarakhand National Games, was banned for three years after testing positive for testosterone metabolites.

According to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2023 figures, India’s doping positivity rate stood at 3.8%—with 214 adverse findings from 5,606 samples—far higher than leading sporting nations like China, the US, France, Germany, and Russia, all of which remain at or below 1%.

Athletics continues to be the worst-affected sport, recording 61 positive cases from 1,223 samples tested.
