Tragedy at Humayun’s Tomb: Six Dead, Multiple Trapped in Wall Collapse

Six people, including three women and three men, lost their lives on Friday afternoon after a section of a wall collapsed inside the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah, located near the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area. The incident occurred around 3:51 PM, prompting an immediate emergency response.

According to officials, 11 individuals have been rescued from the site and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Seven people are still feared trapped beneath the debris as rescue operations continue into the evening.

Emergency teams, including the Delhi Fire Service and local authorities, arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the distress call and began intensive rescue efforts.

Among the deceased are two men, aged 79 and 35, and three women aged 40, 40, and 42. Five of the deceased were pronounced dead at AIIMS Trauma Centre, where nine of the injured were initially taken. One critically injured man is currently being treated at Lok Nayak Hospital, while others are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities have seized the digital video recorder (DVR) from the mosque’s premises as part of the investigation. The caretakers of the Dargah are being questioned, and further inquiries are underway. Civic agencies have been alerted for follow-up action.

The tragic incident occurred in the vicinity of Humayun’s Tomb, a 16th-century Mughal-era monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex is one of Delhi’s most visited historical landmarks, attracting both domestic and international tourists year-round.
