Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected a potential peace deal proposed by US President Donald Trump that would involve ceding Ukrainian territory to Russia. Zelenskyy stated on Saturday that Ukraine will not give up any land to the “occupier” or offer Russia “any awards for what it has done,” insisting that the goal is not a temporary ceasefire but “a real, lasting peace immediately.”
Zelenskyy’s comments were made as Ukrainian and European officials met with US Vice President JD Vance in Kent, England, to discuss a resolution to the conflict. The Ukrainian president described the talks as constructive and expressed confidence in America’s ability to help end the war.
Zelenskyy also warned that the upcoming meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, scheduled for August 15, would be meaningless without Ukraine’s inclusion. He emphasized that “any decisions that are without Ukraine are dead decisions. They will never work.”
According to the Associated Press, some Ukrainian officials have privately acknowledged that Kyiv may eventually be open to a deal that recognizes its inability to reclaim all lost territories militarily.
