Rampur, Uttar Pradesh — A special MP/MLA court in Rampur sentenced Abdullah Azam, son of veteran politician Azam Khan, to seven years in prison and imposed a ₹50,000 fine today. The conviction stems from a case in which the court found him guilty of obtaining two passports and multiple identity documents under different dates of birth.
The court held that Abdullah used forged documents illegally to secure dual passports and PAN cards. Prosecutors had filed charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code including forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Judge Shobhit Bansal delivered the verdict after examining documentary evidence and witness testimonies. He ordered that Abdullah serve the full seven-year sentence and pay the fine.
After the verdict, authorities immediately took Abdullah into custody and transferred him to the district jail in Rampur. This sentence adds to the legal troubles already facing Azam Khan’s family, which has been under scrutiny for multiple alleged offences.
The case originally began in 2019 when a complaint alleged that Abdullah obtained two different passports under different names/dates of birth. The court found that he misused these identity proofs for personal or political benefit.
This verdict represents a major blow to Abdullah’s political career and further tarnishes the public image of his family. Political analysts expect renewed pressure on the party and its leadership amid growing public scrutiny.
