The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has set up a dedicated 10-member special team to investigate the deadly car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. Officers of Superintendent of Police (SP) rank or higher will lead the probe into this suspected terror attack.
Just a day ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed the case to the NIA. Intelligence sources treated it as a terrorist strike, leading to an FIR under UAPA sections. The agency has since launched a full-scale inquiry, linking it to a Jaish-e-Mohammad module.
The explosion hit on November 10 evening. A Haryana-registered Hyundai i20 car detonated near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station during rush hour, killing at least 13 people and injuring over 20. The ammonium nitrate-laden vehicle sparked a fire that damaged nearby cars and shattered windows.
Preliminary findings suggest a possible suicide bombing by suspect Dr. Umar Mohammad, who panicked after arrests in a terror module bust. Key arrests include doctors Dr. Mujammil Shakeel and Dr. Adil Rather, plus Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Waghay and others from J&K and UP. Raids uncovered 350 kg of explosives, rifles, and ammo in Faridabad.
Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the case and ordered joint action by NIA, IB, and Delhi Police. Over 1,000 CCTV clips are under scan, with mobile data dumps analyzed. The team will take over case diaries from J&K, Delhi, and Haryana police.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed justice, as global leaders offered condolences. This rare blast in Delhi’s heart raises security concerns amid recent module busts.
