A horrific road mishap claimed one life and left six others seriously injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district late Thursday night. The speeding car lost control, flipped multiple times, skidded over 100 meters, and collided with a roadside railing, with three of its tyres bursting in the chaos.
The incident unfolded around 10 PM on the Pilibhit-Bisalpur highway near Jiyoraha Kalyanpur village. Victim Prem Kumar (30), a resident of Mohalla Chhota Khudaganj under Kotwali police station, died on the spot. The group was returning from a family outing in Nanakmatta when tragedy struck.
Family Outing Turns Deadly on Bhai Dooj Eve
Prem had visited his in-laws in Aamdar village (Barheda police station area) earlier that day with his wife Preeti and their two-year-old daughter for Bhai Dooj celebrations. Late in the evening, relatives decided on a spontaneous trip to Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Uttarakhand. The ill-fated car carried seven people: Prem Kumar, his family, and relatives Mohan Swaroop, Suresh Kumar, Suraj, Jitendra, Sompal, and Dayashankar—all from Aamdar.
Eyewitnesses reported the car was traveling at high speed. At a sharp village bend, it veered out of control, flipped three to four times, dragged along the road for about 100 meters, and slammed into the guardrail. The violent somersaults caused three tyres to puncture, exacerbating the skid.
Immediate Response and Aftermath
Local police and medical teams rushed to the scene. The injured were first taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Barheda. While most received initial treatment, Mohan Swaroop’s critical condition led to his referral to the Pilibhit district hospital.
Area Magistrate Prakriti Chauhan and Station House Officer Parmendra Kumar arrived promptly, overseeing the rescue and investigation. Prem’s body was sent for post-mortem. Preliminary probes point to excessive speed and possible tyre failure as key factors, though a detailed inquiry is underway.
This accident highlights ongoing road safety concerns on rural highways in UP, where sharp turns and high speeds often prove fatal. Families are urged to check vehicle conditions before night drives, especially during festivals.
