Headline: Putin Calls Out U.S. Double Standards on Russian Uranium Trade at Valdai Forum

At the Valdai Forum in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin sharply criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s inconsistent trade policies. He highlighted the contradiction in the U.S. pressuring nations like India to halt energy imports from Russia while continuing to buy Russian uranium for its nuclear industry. Putin noted that Russia is the second-largest supplier of uranium to the U.S., expected to earn around $1.2 billion from these sales in 2025.

“The U.S. relies heavily on nuclear power and needs substantial fuel supplies. Russia, as the second-largest uranium supplier, meets about 25% of the U.S. market’s demand,” Putin stated. He pointed out that in 2024, Russia earned roughly $800 million from uranium exports to the U.S. His remarks underscored what he sees as Washington’s hypocrisy in targeting Russia’s trade partners, like India, to pressure Moscow over the Ukraine conflict.
