In a devastating road mishap near Kandhbari village on the Utraula Road in the Shridatganj area, four young men lost their lives late at night. The victims were returning from watching a Ramleela performance when the accident occurred around midnight on two motorcycles.
According to Prabhari Inspector Sudhir Singh, police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash. Preliminary investigations reveal that each motorcycle carried three youths, none of whom were wearing helmets—a factor that likely worsened the outcome. The injured were promptly transported by ambulance to the District Joint Hospital, where four were declared dead on arrival by doctors.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjay (25) and his brother Ankit (21), both from the same family, along with Sitaram (22) and Golu alias Santosh Maurya (23), who were also siblings. The loss of two brothers from each family has plunged their villages into deep mourning, with relatives devastated by the tragedy.
All four victims hailed from Muradih village in the Maharajganj Tarai area. Additionally, two others—Virendra Kumar Maurya (24) and Dinesh Maurya (23)—sustained critical injuries in the incident. Virendra has been referred to Lucknow for advanced treatment, while Dinesh was shifted to Bahraich Medical College.
Inspector Singh stated that the motorcycles appear to have collided with a larger vehicle, though the exact cause is under investigation. Police have collected footage from nearby CCTV cameras to aid the probe. Due to the severity of their injuries, no statements could be recorded from the survivors yet.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of road safety, especially the importance of helmets and adhering to traffic rules during late-night travel.
