In a chilling incident in Patna’s Kankarbagh area, a woman allegedly killed her live-in partner, Murari, by crushing him with a silbatta (grinding stone) after a dispute over marriage promises. The accused, identified as Puja, called the police herself, confessing, “I have murdered my boyfriend.” The incident occurred in the Chiraityand area, and the accused is now in custody as the investigation unfolds.
Dispute Over Marriage Turns Deadly
According to police reports, Puja and Murari had been in a live-in relationship for five years. Murari, a driver based in Bengaluru, had been promising marriage for four years but kept delaying, citing family and societal pressure. On the night of the incident, a heated argument erupted when Puja pressed Murari about their marriage plans, which he brushed off. The dispute escalated, but later calmed down. However, in the early hours, while Murari was asleep, Puja allegedly attacked him with a grinding stone, leading to his death.
Accused Separated from Husband
Puja, who is separated from her husband and has a daughter from her previous marriage, had been living with Murari in a rented house in Patna since his return from Bengaluru on September 16, 2025. Murari had not visited his village in three years and was reportedly planning to buy land in Masaurhi.
Allegations of Ulterior Motives
Murari’s brother, former ward councillor Manoj Yadav, alleged that Puja had ulterior motives, claiming she wanted to seize Murari’s money and property. Murari had recently borrowed ₹1 lakh from his sister to purchase land, but Puja allegedly pressured him to register the property in her name, which he refused. Manoj further claimed that Puja drugged Murari with sleeping pills in his food before killing him.
The Kankarbagh police, led by Station House Officer Abhay Kumar, have arrested Puja, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is investigating the crime scene. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dark consequences of a love dispute gone awry.
