Rohan Shankar, who wrote the 2025 musical drama Saiyaara, now pens the thriller Haiwaan. The film is widely reported as the Hindi remake of Oppam, a Malayalam blockbuster.
Priyadarshan directed the original Oppam, which starred Mohanlal as a blind man caught in a murder case. The film won praise for its sharp screenplay, intense suspense, and Mohanlal’s powerful performance. It became a major hit and remains one of Malayalam cinema’s most respected thrillers.
In the Hindi version, Priyadarshan plans to retain the original’s emotional depth and suspense. He will blend these with Bollywood-style action and star power.
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan lead the cast. This marks their first collaboration in 17 years. Shriya Pilgaonkar also joins the film, likely playing a strong female lead. Boman Irani adds further depth with a key role.
Insiders say Haiwaan mixes action, emotion, and mystery. Akshay brings his signature energy. Saif is expected to offer a serious, intense performance. Shriya’s role may form the emotional core of the film.
Priyadarshan has successfully adapted several South Indian films for Hindi audiences. Haiwaan may follow that tradition. Fans eagerly await this reunion of Akshay and Saif and a fresh take on a beloved Malayalam thriller.
The production team has not yet announced a release date.
