Kanpur Student Mauled by Stray Dogs, Gets 17 Stitches on Face
A 21-year-old BBA student, Vaishnavi Sahu, was brutally attacked by stray dogs in Kanpur’s Shyam Nagar on August 20, leaving her with severe facial injuries that required 17 stitches.
The incident occurred when stray dogs and monkeys were fighting on the street. Amid the chaos, three dogs pounced on Vaishnavi, dragging her to the ground and mauling her face and body. Locals rushed to her rescue and managed to drive the dogs away, but not before her cheek and nose were torn apart.
She was rushed to Kanshiram Hospital, where doctors stitched her face and nose. Her family said she is struggling to eat or move her mouth and can only take liquids through a straw.
Calling for urgent government intervention, the family demanded the removal or sheltering of stray dogs to prevent similar attacks. The incident comes at a time when the Supreme Court’s ruling on stray dog sterilisation and relocation has triggered nationwide debate.
