Lucknow Woman Arrested for Strangling Husband After Domestic Dispute
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – A man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife following a late-night quarrel in Chandan village, police said. The accused, identified as Sarojini Devi, fled the scene immediately after the incident but was arrested the next day near Bajrang intersection.
The victim, Mauji Lal, a scrap dealer, had returned home around 1:00 am on Thursday in an inebriated state and got into a heated argument with his wife. During the altercation, Sarojini allegedly strangled him, killing him on the spot.
The case came to light the next morning when Mauji Lal’s father informed police. Based on his complaint, a case was registered and a search operation launched, leading to Sarojini’s arrest on Saturday.
According to Indira Nagar police, frequent disputes had taken place between the couple due to Mauji Lal’s drinking habits and alleged suspicions of Sarojini’s relationship with another man, Arjun Yadav of Sugamau. Their son, Ankul, told investigators that his parents often fought over this issue, and that his father had once destroyed Sarojini’s phone after finding her talking to Yadav.
On August 14, Sarojini reportedly sent her son to the village under the pretext of farm work before carrying out the crime later that night. Neighbours alerted police around 1:30 am after the incident.
The couple had four children; three live in their native village, while the youngest daughter, Roli, stayed with them in Lucknow. Mauji Lal’s body was sent for postmortem before being handed over to the family.
Police confirmed further investigation is underway.
