Israel mounts ‘massive’ strikes on Gaza City ahead of planned takeover

Israel Steps Up Gaza City Assault Amid Mounting Casualties

Israel is intensifying strikes on Gaza City ahead of a planned seizure, with at least 11 Palestinians killed since dawn Monday. Hamas has denounced the plan as an attempt to forcibly displace civilians, calling promises of aid “blatant deception.”

Amnesty International accused Israel of pursuing a campaign of “starvation” and “systematic destruction” of Palestinian life. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Israelis staged one of the largest protests of the war, demanding a deal to free captives in Gaza.

The conflict has killed at least 61,827 Palestinians and wounded over 155,000. In Israel, 1,139 people were killed and more than 200 taken hostage in the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks.
