Uttar Pradesh to Sponsor Five Students Annually for Higher Studies in the UK Under New Scholarship Scheme

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new international scholarship programme named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, aimed at supporting students from the state in pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom. Announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the scheme will sponsor five students each year, with the costs shared equally between the UP government and the British government.

The announcement was made during a memorial event in Lucknow marking the death anniversary of Vajpayee. Paying tribute, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the scholarship reflects Vajpayee’s legacy of visionary leadership and commitment to nation-building. He added, “This scholarship, named in honour of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is considered prestigious in Britain. The state government is dedicated to preserving the memory of Atal Ji through this initiative.”

The programme aims to empower meritorious students by providing access to global education opportunities and strengthening India–UK educational ties.

The Chief Minister also used the occasion to honour Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi on her birth anniversary, highlighting her courage and contribution to India’s freedom struggle. He announced plans to install a statue of the warrior queen as a tribute to her enduring legacy and to further the state’s commitment to recognising the role of women in Indian history.

Senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, BJP State President Bhupendra Singh Patel, and Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, were present at the tribute ceremony.

The initiative represents a blend of educational advancement and cultural remembrance, reflecting the government’s dual focus on youth empowerment and preserving the legacies of national icons.
