ECI Rebukes Political Parties for Blaming Commission While Targeting Voters
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday issued a sharp response to political parties, accusing them of targeting voters while deflecting blame onto the Commission. The remarks came as the Commission rebuked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his “vote chori” (vote theft) allegation.
“Politics is being played by targeting India’s voters while using the Election Commission as a scapegoat,” the Commission said during a press conference. “The ECI wants to make it clear that it has stood, and will continue to stand, firmly and fearlessly with voters of all sections and religions — rich or poor, elderly or young, women or men — without any discrimination.”
Responding to claims of double voting, the Commission stated that while some individuals had made such allegations, no evidence was provided when asked for proof. “Some voters alleged double voting. When asked for evidence, none was given. Neither the Election Commission nor the voters are intimidated by such baseless accusations,” the Commission added.
