UN Says More Than 1,760 Gazans Killed Amid Aid Efforts Since May

UN Reports Surge in Civilian Deaths in Gaza Amid Ongoing Conflict

At least 25 Palestinians, including 12 individuals reportedly seeking humanitarian aid, were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza today, according to local reports.

The UN Human Rights Office states that since late May, at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while attempting to access aid, marking a sharp increase from figures released earlier this month. Humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate, with 11 reported deaths from starvation in the past 24 hours alone, raising the total number of hunger-related fatalities in Gaza to 251.

Since the beginning of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, at least 61,827 Palestinians have been killed and 155,275 wounded, according to local health authorities. On October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks in Israel resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,139 people and the abduction of more than 200 others.

Media Under Fire: Journalists Targeted Amid Conflict

An investigative report by Israeli magazine +972 has accused Israel of systematically targeting Palestinian journalists by labeling them as Hamas affiliates. The report claims that Israel’s long-standing strategy seeks to delegitimize and silence Palestinian media voices.

It also alleges the formation of a post-October 7 “Legitimisation Cell” tasked with identifying Gazan journalists to portray as militants, potentially as a means to justify military actions.

On Sunday, Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif, three of his colleagues, and two freelance journalists were reportedly killed in what the network described as a deliberate Israeli attack.

Violence Spills Over in the West Bank

Further reports from the occupied West Bank detail an attack by Israeli settlers near the town of Halhul, north of Hebron. According to Wafa news agency, settlers from the illegal Karmei Tzur settlement—accompanied by Israeli forces—allegedly threw stones and threatened Palestinian residents.

The incident reportedly left a 59-year-old woman with a serious head wound and injured two other family members.
