Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan is beaming with pride as his son, Abhishek Bachchan, took home the Best Actor (Male) award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 for his performance in I Want to Talk. In a deeply personal and heartfelt note shared on his blog, the legendary star described himself as “the happiest Father in the entire Universe” and called Abhishek “the pride and honour of the family.”
The award marks a significant milestone in Abhishek’s career, one that his father sees as the well-earned result of unwavering dedication, resilience, and integrity.
“You fly the flag that Dada ji established, and have carried it through with valour and hard work, consistency, never giving in, and an attitude of: the more you pull me down, I’ll stand again,” Amitabh wrote, lauding his son’s perseverance through criticism and setbacks. “It took time, but you didn’t give up. You have shown the world on your own merit.”

Alongside the note, Amitabh shared photos of Abhishek, including a magazine cover, symbolising the recognition his son has garnered beyond national boundaries. Reflecting on the international acclaim, he added:
“They that have recognised your talent and creative contribution, may have been several ‘ocean waters’ away, but trust me, in time our own surrounded ‘water ways of oceans’ shall envelope you in their surging waves.”
The veteran actor also recalled a time when he had publicly praised Abhishek’s performance in a previous film — only to be met with ridicule and accusations of bias.
“They that command the informative wood-derived paperwork, had ridiculed me and my paternal flamboyance… The sly and scornful laugh has been silenced by respect and admiration,” he wrote.
He concluded the emotional tribute with a powerful message about the cost and reward of triumph:
“Winning is the ultimate answer to many binding ropes and chains! The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards. You, Abhishek, just proved that. Stay quiet and flow at your own wish. With all my love, a very proud Father and family.”
Abhishek’s Winning Role
In I Want to Talk, Abhishek portrays a complex character navigating internal turmoil — a performance that has drawn praise from international critics. His recent work also includes the film Kaalidhar Laapata, where he played a middle-aged man grappling with memory loss, betrayal, and abandonment. The film, directed by Madhumita, is currently streaming on ZEE5.

What’s Next for the Bachchans
While Abhishek basks in global recognition, Amitabh continues to host Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 17 and was last seen in Vettaiyan, his Tamil cinema debut directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film features a powerhouse ensemble cast including Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Manju Warrier.
The IFFM honour for Abhishek is not just a personal victory — it’s a moment of vindication for a legacy, and a family, that has weathered both applause and criticism with grace and grit.
