India Honors 79 Years of Independence, PM Modi Leads the Nation in Celebration

India commemorates its 79th Independence Day today, August 15, 2025, marking 78 years since the country gained freedom from nearly two centuries of British colonial rule in 1947. The day is being celebrated with patriotic fervor and ceremonial grandeur across the country, with the national capital, New Delhi, at the heart of the festivities.

As part of the official celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive at the historic Red Fort around 7:30 am. Following a formal inspection of the Guard of Honour, he will hoist the national flag — a symbolic act that recalls the very first Independence Day in 1947.

At approximately 7:45 am, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. His speech is expected to highlight key achievements of the past year, outline the government’s vision for the future, and reflect on the nation’s journey since independence.

The flag-hoisting ceremony will be accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the rendition of the national anthem, followed by cultural performances showcasing India’s rich heritage.

Across the country, government buildings are illuminated, schools and communities are hosting patriotic programs, and citizens are participating in various commemorative events to honor the freedom fighters and leaders who laid the foundation for an independent India.

Security has been tightened in Delhi and other major cities, with thousands of personnel deployed to ensure smooth and safe celebrations.
