Shubman Gill’s Jersey Fetches Highest Price in Charity Auction, Raising Funds for Ruth Strauss Foundation

In a recent online charity auction, several Indian Test cricket jerseys, including those of captain Shubman Gill and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, were sold for significant amounts. The auction, organized by sports memorabilia specialists BUDDS, was a part of the “Red for Ruth” campaign, an initiative by the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

Gill’s jersey, worn during his captaincy debut series against England, fetched the highest price among the Indian lots, selling for £4,600 (approximately Rs 5.41 lakh). As the leading run-scorer of the series with 754 runs, Gill’s contributions helped India level the five-match series 2-2. Other notable items included jerseys from Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, which sold for £4,200 (Rs 4.94 lakh) each.

All jerseys were match-worn and autographed, adding to their value for collectors. The Indian team’s memorabilia collectively raised over £28,830 (about Rs 33.9 lakh) for the foundation.

The Ruth Strauss Foundation, established by former England captain Sir Andrew Strauss in memory of his late wife, provides support to families facing a parent’s terminal illness and funds research into non-smoking lung cancers. The charity auction was a powerful reminder of how the sport can come together for a humanitarian cause.
