The new horror-mystery film “Weapons”, directed by Zach Cregger and starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, is generating a divided response from audiences. Released on August 8, 2025, the film has a strong critical score of 8 out of 10 on IMDb, but social media reactions show a wide range of opinions.
“Weapons” centers on a chilling story where seventeen children from a single classroom mysteriously disappear on the same night, seemingly abducted by an invisible entity. The film’s cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan, among others.
While some viewers are praising the movie’s originality and storyline, others are critiquing its execution. One enthusiastic social media user called the film “an original Horror film crafted from pain,” praising Cregger for creating something “fresh, exhilarating, horrifying, & fun.”
However, not all reactions have been positive. Some viewers found the movie to be clichéd and predictable. One person on social media commented that the film “started slow, peaked briefly, then dipped into cliché territory,” concluding that it wasn’t great, but not bad either. Another user expressed disappointment with the ending, stating that it “ruined it all” and called it a “complete waste of such a well-built world,” despite appreciating the originality of the screenplay.
The film was produced by New Line Cinema and Vertigo Entertainment, and is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
