Karan Johar believes that Bollywood’s biggest problem is a “herd mentality,” where filmmakers blindly copy successful trends instead of creating original content. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he noted that after a film like “Pushpa” or “Chhaava” succeeds, many people try to replicate that same formula. Similarly, the success of films like “Stree” has led to an influx of horror comedies.
Johar argues that these films worked because they were unique and stood out from the crowd. He emphasized that the industry needs more original ideas, not just imitations. When asked if he was building a cinematic universe, like a “spy universe” or “cop universe,” Johar responded, “My universe is cinema itself.” He stated that his focus is on telling unique stories, not on creating interconnected universes.
